AutPlay® Therapy

What is AutPlay® Therapy?

AutPlay® Therapy, created by Dr. Robert Jason Grant, is a neurodiversity-affirming framework that brings together the best of play therapy and behavioral approaches. Designed for children and teens ages 3–18, AutPlay® Therapy supports neurodivergent kids—including those who are autistic, have ADHD, sensory differences, learning differences, anxiety, and other developmental or physical disabilities.

AutPlay® Therapy recognizes that every child’s brain is unique, and that therapy should celebrate and support those differences rather than try to “fix” them. The goal is to help children build skills, confidence, and connections in ways that honor their authentic selves.

How AutPlay® Therapy Works

AutPlay® Therapy uses playful, structured interventions to support skill development in six key areas:

  • Emotional regulation
  • Social skills
  • Connection and relationship-building
  • Sensory processing
  • Anxiety management
  • Behavioral challenges

It’s effective for increasing emotional regulation, improving social functioning, building relationships, reducing anxiety, and helping children focus and connect at home, school, and in the community

Who Can Benefit?

AutPlay® Therapy is for children and adolescents with a wide range of neurodevelopmental profiles, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • ADHD
  • Sensory Processing Challenges
  • Learning Differences
  • Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
  • Tourette Syndrome
  • Social and Impulsive Disorders
  • Highly sensitive children
  • And more

The Role of Parents & Caregivers

AutPlay® Therapy for Parents & Guardians

Parents and caregivers are essential partners in AutPlay® Therapy. You are your child’s main support, advocate, and attachment figure. AutPlay® includes parent training and guidance so you can use play-based strategies at home to build positive connections and support your child’s growth every day. Caregiver sessions may cover routines, visual schedules, reward systems, and ways to nurture emotional safety and consistency.

Here are some resources to help your child prepare for their first session.

What Makes AutPlay® Therapy Unique?

  • Neurodiversity-Affirming: Respects and celebrates each child’s unique way of thinking, feeling, and interacting.
  • Play-Based: Uses play—the natural language of children—to build skills and foster connection.
  • Family-Focused: Involves parents and caregivers as active partners in the therapy process.
  • Flexible & Inclusive: Effective for a wide range of neurodevelopmental needs, not just autism or ADHD.

Why Choose AutPlay® Therapy?

AutPlay® Therapy is about giving children and families the tools and support they need to thrive. It’s not about changing who a child is, but empowering them to understand themselves, build relationships, and navigate the world with confidence. With the right support, every child can shine.
